The Blood of Dawnwalker Won’t Run at 60fps on Console, Even on PS5 Pro

The Blood of Dawnwalker Confirmed to Run Below 60fps on Consoles, Sparking Fan Backlash

Developer Rebel Wolves has pulled back the curtain on its highly anticipated RPG, The Blood of Dawnwalker, providing a fresh look at gameplay footage running on current-gen consoles. However, the reveal has been met with immediate frustration from the community, as the studio confirmed that the game will not hit the industry-standard 60fps target on any console platform at launch.

Set for a September 3, 2026, release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, The Blood of Dawnwalker puts players in the shoes of Coen, a half-human, half-vampire protagonist fighting to save his family in 14th-century Europe. Despite the high level of excitement surrounding its atmospheric world and complex narrative, the technical specifications for console hardware have cast a shadow over its upcoming debut.

Performance Breakdown

New promotional material outlines the graphics modes for console users, revealing a lack of high-framerate options even for high-end hardware like the PlayStation 5 Pro:

  • PS5 Pro:
    • Quality Mode: Dynamic 4K, 30fps target
    • Balanced Mode: Dynamic 4K, 40fps target
  • Base PS5 & Xbox Series X:
    • Quality Mode: Dynamic 4K, 30fps target
    • Balanced Mode: Dynamic 4K, 40fps target

Notably, Rebel Wolves has yet to provide performance targets for the Xbox Series S, leaving owners of the entry-level machine in the dark regarding what to expect.

A "Dealbreaker" for Fans

Given that The Blood of Dawnwalker features a heavy emphasis on precise swordplay and reactive combat, the absence of a 60fps mode has been cited by many as a significant oversight. Within the community, the reception has been swift, with many players expressing their intent to switch to the PC version to ensure a smoother experience.

Social media sentiment reflects this disappointment, with one user on X (formerly Twitter) stating, "I’m disappointed. No 60 FPS mode. Guys… Come on. Seriously? PC it is then, but you could’ve pushed for more on the Pro."

With the game launching in just a few weeks, it remains unclear if these performance limitations are a permanent constraint or something the developers hope to address in a post-launch update.

Part of a Growing Trend?

The news arrives amid a broader, intensifying conversation within the gaming industry regarding performance targets. With other massive titles like GTA 6 also reportedly struggling to balance visual fidelity with high framerates, the "60fps debate" is becoming a recurring theme for 2026 releases.

As fans await further details on The Blood of Dawnwalker, the studio will need to determine if this technical controversy will dampen the hype for one of the year’s most promising new RPGs.
