Box Office Battle: ‘Bethlehem Kudumba Unit’ Cruises Toward 100 Crore Milestone as ‘Khalifa’ Faces Steady Decline

The battle at the box office continues to intensify as two major Malayalam releases, Nivin Pauly’s Bethlehem Kudumba Unit and Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Khalifa, navigate their second weeks in theaters. While both films are seeing expected weekday dips, the gap between their commercial performances continues to widen.

Nivin Pauly’s Dominance Continues

Nivin Pauly’s Bethlehem Kudumba Unit remains in a league of its own, maintaining a robust momentum well into its second week. According to data from Sacnilk, the film raked in an impressive Rs 4.50 crore net in India on Wednesday. Across 2,284 shows nationwide, the movie achieved an overall occupancy of 35.94%, with the strongest support coming from night screenings, which saw a healthy 50.83% occupancy.

With this latest haul, the film’s total India net collection has soared to Rs 98.10 crore, placing it firmly on the brink of the prestigious Rs 100 crore mark. Its India gross now stands at Rs 114.50 crore. When factoring in a stellar overseas performance—which contributed an additional Rs 3 crore on Day 13 alone—the film’s worldwide gross has reached a staggering Rs 223.50 crore.

Despite a 12.6% decline from the previous day’s collection of Rs 5.15 crore, the film’s consistent performance underscores its mass appeal. Kerala remains the primary stronghold for the production, contributing Rs 4.65 crore to the Day 13 total.

‘Khalifa’ Struggles to Keep Pace

In contrast, Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Khalifa is experiencing a more challenging run. On its 14th day of release, the film recorded an India net collection of Rs 25 lakhs across 565 shows. This represents a 16.7% drop from its Day 13 figure of Rs 30 lakhs.

Khalifa currently holds an India net total of Rs 20.48 crore, with its India gross reaching Rs 23.70 crore. Including its overseas earnings of Rs 19.90 crore, the film’s worldwide gross currently sits at Rs 43.60 crore. Occupancy for the film remained modest at 16% on Wednesday, with night shows again proving to be the most popular, registering an occupancy of 19.88%.

Summary of Performance

As the dust settles on the second week, Bethlehem Kudumba Unit maintains a significant lead over Khalifa in both domestic and international markets. While the former is poised to enter the 100-crore net club shortly, Khalifa continues to search for momentum to improve its standing in a highly competitive market.
