Theo James Dismisses Meghan Markle Casting Rumors for ‘The Gentlemen,’ Jokes About Prince Harry’s Role

As anticipation builds for the highly awaited return of Guy Ritchie’s hit Netflix series, The Gentlemen, leading man Theo James has officially put an end to persistent rumors regarding the potential casting of Meghan Markle.

In recent months, speculation had swirled that the Duchess of Sussex might make an appearance in the show’s upcoming third season, a theory fueled by reports suggesting that she and Prince Harry were considering a return to the UK. However, James, who stars as the aristocratic-turned-criminal Eddie Horniman, has firmly rejected these claims, labeling the gossip as “a lot of hot air.”

A Tongue-in-Cheek Response

During a recent promotional tour for the show, James addressed the rumors with his signature dry wit. In an interview with Town & Country, when asked about the possibility of “a certain ex-royal” joining the cast, James quipped, “Yes, Fergie is joining. She’ll be playing my love interest.”

Continuing his playful deflection during a separate appearance on Extra, the actor doubled down on the comedy. “No, Prince Harry is playing one of my love interests,” James joked, effectively silencing the rumors while highlighting the absurdity of the tabloid speculation.

The actor emphasized that the production team’s current focus is entirely on the success of the upcoming second season, noting that while a third season is on the horizon, casting choices remain professional and unrelated to the British Royal Family.

What to Expect in ‘The Gentlemen’ Season 2

As the series prepares for its next chapter, fans are eager to see how Eddie Horniman’s journey evolves. James described the second season as a pivotal turning point for his character, as Eddie leans into his dual identity as both an aristocrat and a criminal kingpin.

“Season 2 was always going to be about Eddie expanding the reach of his criminal empire and testing the relationship Eddie has with Bobby Glass,” James explained to Tudum. “By Season 2, he is a man very much at the helm of it… That ignites a fiery ambition in him, and it also starts to move the ego.”

Returning Cast and Production Details

The crime drama’s sophomore season sees the return of an all-star ensemble. Fans can look forward to seeing Theo James, Kaya Scodelario, Ray Winstone, Daniel Ings, Joely Richardson, Vinnie Jones, Jasmine Blackborow, Michael Vu, Harry Goodwins, Ruby Sear, Pearce Quigley, and Giancarlo Esposito reprising their roles.

The second season, which consists of eight episodes, is slated for release on September 3. Looking further ahead, Guy Ritchie has already confirmed a third season, promising to push the boundaries of the show’s expanding criminal underworld.
