CJP’s Abhijeet Dipke Held, AISA Chief Neha Bora Freed Amidst Delhi Protests

CJP’s Abhijeet Dipke Held, AISA Chief Neha Bora Freed Amidst Delhi Protests

Delhi Police Detains CJP Founder, AISA Chief Amid ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ Protest Tensions

New Delhi: The national capital witnessed heightened tension on Friday as the Delhi Police took prominent activists, including Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke and All India Students’ Association (AISA) chief Neha Bora, into preventive custody. The move came ahead of the scheduled ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ protest march slated to take place at Connaught Place.

While Bora was released early Saturday morning following the completion of procedural formalities under the Delhi Police Act, Dipke remains in police custody. Authorities have charged Dipke under Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), citing concerns over a potential breach of peace. He is expected to be presented before the Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) court later today.

Allegations of Secrecy and Legal Obstruction

The arrests have drawn sharp criticism from legal representatives and party associates. Ratna Singh, the legal head for the CJP, expressed deep concern regarding the lack of transparency surrounding Dipke’s situation.

“Abhijeet has been arrested and is set to appear before the SEM court. However, his current location remains undisclosed, and legal counsel has not been granted access to meet with him,” Singh stated in a social media update. Prior to this, the CJP had alerted the public that they had lost contact with their founder, alleging that he was being held at an unknown location without the ability to consult with his lawyers. Meanwhile, AISA reported that Bora had been held in isolation at the Anti-Narcotics Task Force facility in Mangolpuri during her detention.

‘Calculated Strategy to Instil Fear’

Following her release on Saturday, Neha Bora addressed the media, characterizing her detention and the broader police action against protesters as an orchestrated attempt to suppress dissent.

“For quite some time, we have observed a pattern where citizens are apprehended without any valid justification and confined for hours,” Bora remarked. “This is happening daily under the current administration. What I witnessed today serves as a stark example of why these illegal detentions occur—they are designed specifically to instil fear in the minds of ordinary citizens.”

Bora further demanded the immediate release of Dipke and all other demonstrators still in custody. She emphasized that the protesters, who were simply gathering to demand accountability and the right to participate in the democratic process, were being treated like criminals.

“Abhijeet must be released immediately. I was not even informed of his detention until much later. There is no moral or legal justification for holding these individuals in custody overnight or denying them their right to legal counsel,” she added.

The ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ march had been organized to highlight various socio-political demands, but the event was effectively stifled by the police’s preemptive measures. As the situation develops, civil society groups and activists continue to monitor the status of those still detained, calling for greater transparency and respect for the fundamental right to peaceful protest in the capital.
