Three fire engines attended the scene

Plumes of black smoke could be seen billowing into the sky after a fire broke out at a restaurant in Haydock. Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service was called to the blaze at the former Leo’s Bar and Grill on Branch Way at 5.44pm on Monday, May 11.

Three fire engines were sent to the scene, where crews discovered the single-storey restaurant, which is understood to be unoccupied, well alight. Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the building and tackled the flames using two hose reel jets.

The fire has since been extinguished, with crews remaining at the scene to ventilate the property.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said: “Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service is currently in attendance at an incident on Branch Way, Haydock.

“Crews were alerted at 5.44pm and arrived on scene at 5.52pm. Three fire engines are currently on scene.

“On arrival crews found a single storey unoccupied restaurant involved in fire. Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus were deployed to the property to fight the fire using two hose reel jets.

“The fire is now extinguished and crews remain on scene to ventilate the property.”
