Abhay Verma Puts ‘Choomantar’ Casting Rumors to Rest, Calls Speculation “Surprising”
Rising Bollywood star Abhay Verma, who recently captured the audience’s attention with his stellar performance in the sleeper hit Munjya, has finally addressed the persistent rumors surrounding the sci-fi rom-com Choomantar. For months, reports suggested that the actor was set to headline the Tarun Dudeja-directed project, with names like Ananya Panday, Sreeleela, and Janki Bodiwala frequently surfacing as his potential co-stars.
However, in a candid conversation, Verma has clarified that these reports are entirely unfounded.
Setting the Record Straight
Speaking to News18, the actor expressed amusement at the extent of the gossip. “It’s apparently not happening,” Verma revealed. “There was a lot of follow-up news after the first rumor came about. It was quite surprising! I read articles on how the shoot is starting and how the cast members are changing. While all of that was happening, I was quietly sitting and thinking of the real projects that I’m actually involved in.”
Despite the confusion, the actor harbors no ill will toward the project’s concept. In fact, he admitted that the news cycle actually piqued his own interest in the film. “It made me wish for this film to happen! I’m keeping my fingers crossed. But for now, nothing is happening,” he added.
Rising Stardom and Professional Integrity
Following the success of Munjya, Verma has continued to cement his place in the industry with his recent project, Operation Safed Sagar. Receiving solo billing alongside seasoned veterans like Jimmy Sheirgill and Siddharth has been a humbling experience for the young actor.
“To have my name next to them is a bit overwhelming. It’s a motivator,” he said, emphasizing that his focus remains on his craft rather than the vanity of credits. “I came here with the passion and dream to act. I’m getting to do it and that’s bigger than anything else. Opportunity means everything to me.”
When asked about the “golden boy” label often attributed to him following his recent back-to-back successes, Verma humbly deflected the title. He credited his success entirely to his audience, stating, “I certainly don’t believe that I’m the golden boy. I call the audience my baap. Whatever I’m today is because of them.”
Looking Ahead: The ‘King’ Experience
As he continues to build his momentum, all eyes are now on his upcoming high-profile project, King. The film is set to feature a powerhouse ensemble, including Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, Suhana Khan, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, and Rani Mukerji.
With fans eagerly awaiting his next move, it is clear that Abhay Verma is choosing his roles with intent and staying grounded amidst the Choomantar rumours. As he continues to navigate the complexities of the industry, Verma’s commitment to “selling dreams” remains the driving force behind his burgeoning career.
