Air India Express Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Lucknow Following Cargo Smoke Alarm

LUCKNOW – An Air India Express flight traveling from Varanasi to Delhi was forced to make a precautionary landing at Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport in Lucknow on Thursday morning after a smoke detection alarm triggered in the aircraft’s cargo hold.

Flight IX 1253, carrying 155 passengers and crew, departed from Varanasi at approximately 8:00 a.m. Shortly after takeoff, the flight crew received a notification indicating smoke within the cargo area. Following standard safety protocols, the pilot immediately alerted the Lucknow Air Traffic Control (ATC) to request an emergency landing.

The aircraft touched down safely at Lucknow airport at 8:52 a.m. Upon arrival, the airport’s emergency response teams, including fire brigades and technical ground staff, were deployed to the runway to secure the plane. By 9:02 a.m., all 155 passengers and crew members had been successfully deboarded, and no injuries were reported.

Following the evacuation, the aircraft was moved to a designated hangar for a comprehensive technical inspection. According to initial reports, preliminary checks conducted by ground engineers yielded no signs of actual smoke or fire, suggesting that the incident may have been caused by a technical glitch or a sensor malfunction.

The airline has launched an investigation to determine the root cause of the false alarm. This incident is the latest in a series of precautionary measures taken by domestic carriers to prioritize passenger safety in the face of cockpit alerts.
