Endurance Athlete Sets Sights on Guinness World Record with 100km Cricket-Themed Run

In a feat of extraordinary physical endurance and sporting eccentricity, 22-year-old English cricketer Sam Bodoano has completed a grueling 62-mile (100km) trek from the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London to the Valley End Cricket Club in Woking, Surrey. The ambitious journey, which lasted approximately 14 hours, was undertaken as part of an attempt to secure a place in the Guinness World Records for the longest bowling run-up.

A Marathon in Cricket Whites

To meet the rigorous standards set by Guinness World Records, Bodoano did not simply run the distance; he performed the entire 100km journey dressed in full cricket whites, all while carrying a cricket ball. The challenge culminated in a ceremonial moment at his destination, where, despite the immense physical toll, Bodoano bowled the opening delivery of an 11-a-side match to his own father.

While Bodoano is confident he has far surpassed the current benchmark, the achievement is currently pending official verification. A spokesperson for Guinness World Records confirmed that the application is undergoing a formal evidence review process, which typically takes roughly two weeks to finalize.

If ratified, Bodoano’s effort will shatter the current men’s record of 15 miles (24km), held by Tom Dunn, who set the mark in August 2024 with a run from Bethnal Green to Wandsworth Common.

Running for a Cause

Beyond the record attempt, Bodoano’s primary motivation was altruistic. The endurance athlete successfully raised nearly £6,000 for The Ruth Strauss Foundation, a charity dedicated to supporting families facing the loss of a parent to cancer, founded by former England cricket captain Sir Andrew Strauss.

“I’m very tired, I lost a lot of sleep, but it was all for an amazing cause,” Bodoano reflected after completing the challenge.

A Proven Endurance Pedigree

Bodoano is no stranger to high-intensity physical trials. An experienced athlete with a diverse sporting background, he has previously competed in the England Hockey Men’s Premier League and has completed demanding events such as the London Marathon and Ironman Wales. Most recently, he demonstrated his stamina by finishing third in a 112-mile backyard ultra-marathon.

As a professional running coach and content creator, Bodoano often documents his training, but this specific cricket-themed challenge stands out as perhaps his most unique contribution to the sporting world to date. For now, the sporting community awaits the official word from Guinness, as Bodoano’s 100km journey stands as a testament to the power of combining personal ambition with charitable spirit.
