Maharashtra CET Cell Issues Strict Guidelines for Institutional-Level Admissions to Vacant Seats
The Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell has officially released a comprehensive set of guidelines for colleges regarding the filling of seats that remain vacant following the conclusion of all Centralised Admission Process (CAP) rounds. These mandates are designed to ensure transparency, fairness, and merit-based selection for technical education courses across the state.
Mandatory Rules for Filling Vacancies
According to the official notice, institutional-level admissions can only commence once the formal CAP rounds have been completed. Colleges are strictly bound by Rule 13 of the information brochure, which governs the procedures for filling remaining seats. The CET Cell emphasized that all admissions must be conducted strictly on the basis of the "inter-se merit" of eligible candidates.
To maintain operational transparency, colleges are required to:
- Publish their specific admission rules, detailed procedures, and prospectuses on their official websites.
- Display the final institutional-level merit list on both their physical notice boards and official web portals.
- Immediately update the admission details of any confirmed candidate on the CAP portal to prevent discrepancies.
Application Process for Candidates
Students seeking admission to vacant seats have two primary avenues. They may apply directly to their preferred institution, provided the college accepts direct applications. In instances where a college does not accept direct filings, candidates must submit an institutional-level option form via their CAP portal login. Institutions are then responsible for integrating these applications into their overall merit calculation.
Safeguarding Against Malpractice
In a strong advisory, the Maharashtra CET 2026 cell has issued a stern warning to students and parents regarding intermediaries and "admission agents."
Authorities have cautioned that no student should accept admission offers before the official completion of CAP rounds. Furthermore, the CET Cell urged candidates to exercise extreme vigilance against misleading information circulated on social media, suspicious links, or unsolicited advice from private consultants.
"Candidates must verify all admission-related information through official channels before making any financial or academic commitment," the statement noted. By reinforcing these guidelines, the CET Cell aims to protect students from fraudulent practices and ensure that every seat is filled through a legitimate, merit-based selection process.
