The anticipation surrounding the historical drama Raja Shivaji has reached a fever pitch as the film premiered in theaters on May 1. Starring Riteish Deshmukh, the movie has sparked lively discussions among audiences, eliciting a range of reactions. Notably, Raja Shivaji is being hailed as the most expensive Marathi film to date, with a reported budget of approximately Rs 100 crore. Released in both Marathi and Hindi, the film aims to capture a broader audience across different regions, further heightening interest in its box office performance.

Raja Shivaji delves into the life and legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, emphasizing his quest for poorn swaraj and the establishment of the Maratha empire. The narrative showcases his leadership qualities, vision, and pivotal moments throughout his journey. Directed by Riteish Deshmukh, who also takes on the lead role, the film is produced by Jyoti Deshpande and Genelia Deshmukh under the banners of Jio Studios and Mumbai Film Company.

The film features a notable ensemble cast, including Abhishek Bachchan as Sambhaji Shahaji Bhosle, Sanjay Dutt portraying Afzal Khan, and Boman Irani as Peer Baba. Jitendra Joshi plays Pant, while Sachin Khedekar takes on the role of Shahaji Raje Bhosale. Mahesh Manjrekar appears as Lakhuji Jadhav, and Genelia Deshmukh portrays Saibai. The film also includes performances by Vidya Balan as Badi Begum, Amole Gupte as Adilshah, Bhagyashree as Jijabai, and Fardeen Khan as Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan.

While the film’s budget is reported to be around Rs 100 crore, this figure has not been officially confirmed. As the film continues to draw audiences, its financial success will be closely monitored, particularly in the Hindi market.

Trade analyst Rohit Jaiswal provided insights into the box office expectations for the Hindi version of Raja Shivaji. He indicated that the film should aim for a minimum of Rs 40 crore to achieve a respectable status. If it surpasses Rs 60 crore, it could be deemed a hit within the Hindi film landscape. As viewers flock to theaters, the film’s reception and box office performance will be pivotal in determining its overall success.
