We’ve gotten another update on Star Wars Eclipse. The game being developed by controversial video game developer Quantic Dream is still moving forward, with a new job listing revealing that they are looking for new environment artists to work on the game. However, other reports suggest that the game is at risk if progress on the game remains slow.
The good news is that Star Wars Eclipse is moving forward with its current stage hiring environmental artists, as revealed by a new online listing tied to the development of the game:

This hiring report also follows Insider Gaming’s report about rumors of Quantic Dream acquirer NetEase having concerns about the project, with development being described as being “very slow going” with “very little progress made over months” past a certain point. While a certain amount of the game is said to be finished, Star Wars Eclipse is being described as “looking to be years off from completion” at the current rate of progression.
Quantic Dream is said to want an expansion of their staff to get through their current impasse in development, but NetEase is hesitant at the moment, while both companies are watching the long-term performance of their recently released game Spellcasters Chronicles before making any major decisions about the future of the title, with revenue from that game potentially funding the remainder of development on Star Wars Eclipse.
Should Spellcasters Chronicles fail to meet financial expectations, “NetEase is expected to reevaluate its commitment to the studio and could opt to discontinue further investment” – which would potentially put Star Wars Eclipse in danger. No parties involved with the game have opted to speak about its development, so we will have to go off of reports such as these to go off of for the foreseeable future. In any case, some progress is being made at a glacial pace, since new hires are being assembled after over four years since the game was first announced. Another report suggested that the game would only be available in 2027 or 2028 at the earliest, so this would back that 2022 report – albeit with the likelihood that the game may be even further out than 2028.
Star Wars Eclipse does not have a set release date. The action-adventure game is set in the High Republic era, a time when the Jedi were at the height of their power and the Republic was at a cultural and economic peak, decades to hundreds of years before the time of the Skywalkers. It’s been teased that players will be able to experience a variety of intersecting stories from various factions and explore many of the worlds of the galaxy far, far away.
