Bollywood actress Tara Sutaria, who is currently garnering critical acclaim for her performance in the film Toxic: A Fairy Tale for The Grown-Ups, has shared a vulnerable and personal side of her life. In a recent conversation about the importance of financial literacy, the actress opened up about her diagnosis with dyscalculia, a learning disability that affects an individual’s ability to process and work with numbers.

Speaking with Hautterfly, Sutaria shed light on the challenges she faces in managing her monetary affairs. While emphasizing the necessity for women to be well-versed in banking, paperwork, and investment management, she admitted that she requires significant external support to handle her own wealth.
“I am lucky because my dad helps me with my finances,” the actress revealed. “It is very important to know everything about your bank work and your paperwork… but I have a learning disability—a math learning disability called dyscalculia. I try, but more often than not, I make a mistake. I need my team; my accounts team looks into everything.”
Dyscalculia, often colloquially referred to as “math dyslexia,” is a specific learning disorder that impairs a person’s capacity to understand number-based concepts, perform arithmetic, or grasp mathematical logic. Despite these inherent difficulties, Sutaria remains committed to learning and staying involved in her financial growth.
Building a Diverse Portfolio
Despite the challenges posed by her condition, Sutaria has shown a keen interest in long-term wealth creation. She shared that she is actively building a diverse investment portfolio, with a particular fondness for the real estate market.
“I am learning as I go,” Sutaria explained. “These are conversations I have with my friends, who have the best understanding. I love homes, and I love investing in that.”
