Seeking Anonymity: Dr. Shriram Nene Reveals Why Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma Relocated to London

The high-profile union of Indian cricket icon Virat Kohli and Bollywood star Anushka Sharma has long been a subject of public fascination. However, recent insights from Dr. Shriram Nene, husband of legendary actor Madhuri Dixit, have shed light on the personal sacrifices the power couple has had to make to maintain their sanity amidst relentless fame.

The Price of Stardom

In a candid conversation with YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, Dr. Nene discussed the immense pressure that accompanies extreme celebrity status in India. Reflecting on his interactions with the couple, he revealed that the decision to base their family in London was driven by a fundamental desire for normalcy—something they found increasingly difficult to achieve at home.

“We had a conversation with Anushka one day, and it was very interesting,” Dr. Nene shared. “They were thinking about moving to London because they can’t enjoy their success here. And we appreciate what they go through because anything they do attracts attention. We almost become isolated.”

The Struggle for Privacy

Dr. Nene, who himself navigated life in the public eye after moving to India with Madhuri Dixit in 2011, empathized with the couple’s predicament. He noted that while celebrity interactions are often well-meaning, they can quickly turn intrusive, turning everyday activities like dining out into a performance of constant politeness.

“I get along with everyone; I’m ‘bindaas’ (carefree). But even then, it becomes challenging. There’s always a selfie moment,” he explained. “It’s not in a bad way, but there comes a time when it becomes intrusive—when you’re at dinner or lunch—and you have to be polite about it. For my wife, it becomes an issue. But (Anushka and Virat) are lovely people, and they just want to raise their kids normally.”

A Quieter Life Abroad

Since shifting their primary base to London, Virat and Anushka have largely succeeded in keeping their private life out of the headlines. The couple, who married in an intimate 2017 ceremony in Italy, are now parents to two children, Vamika and Akaay. Their move has allowed them to enjoy the simple, mundane experiences of family life—strolls in the park and casual outings—without the constant lens of the paparazzi or the pressure of public adulation.

For Anushka, who has taken a significant hiatus from acting since her 2018 project Zero, the transition reflects a deliberate shift in priorities. By stepping away from the whirlwind of Bollywood production and high-profile film sets, she and Kohli are charting a path that prioritizes their children’s upbringing over the demands of their massive public platforms.

Dr. Nene’s revelations provide a rare look into the reality of modern fame, highlighting that even for the most successful icons, the ultimate luxury is often the ability to walk down a street unnoticed.
