"Keep Your Advice to Yourself": Mini Mathur Slams Unsolicited Comments on Women’s Choices and Bodies
In a candid and powerful appearance on The Male Feminist podcast by Hauterrfly, acclaimed actress and television personality Mini Mathur has issued a stern message to those who feel entitled to comment on women’s lives.
Fresh off her victory as the winner of the inaugural season of the Amazon Prime Video reality show Alliance, Mathur used the platform to address the pervasive culture of unsolicited advice, body shaming, and the dismissive language often directed at homemakers.
Drawing the Line on Physicality
During the discussion, Mathur spoke passionately about the lack of boundaries many individuals feel comfortable crossing when interacting with women. When asked what men should stop saying to women, the actress was unequivocal.
"Commenting on physicality… ‘Are you feeling tired? Did you not get sleep? Did you put on weight? Oh, you lost weight? What happened?’" Mathur remarked. She emphasized that such remarks, coming from both men and women, are deeply intrusive. "When did I give you permission to shorten this distance between you and me? That you are seeing my body and commenting about it?" she questioned, advocating for a much-needed re-evaluation of personal space and social etiquette.
"Apni Advice Apne Paas Rakhiye"
Mathur did not hold back when addressing the pressure women face regarding their reproductive choices. She specifically targeted the unsolicited advice many women receive about starting or expanding their families.
"Asking women, ‘What about kids? Have one more kid. It is great fun…’ Apni advice apne paas rakhiye (Keep your advice to yourself)," she asserted. For Mathur, such deeply personal questions should never be broached unless the woman in question has explicitly invited the conversation.
The actress also took issue with the societal perception of being a "housewife." She expressed her frustration with the condescending tone often used when discussing domestic roles, clarifying that she takes immense pride in being a homemaker.
"Don’t look at me and dare ask why am I not working? I am working on many things you don’t even know!" she declared, highlighting that a woman’s professional worth is not defined by external observations of her schedule.
A Decorated Career
Mini Mathur’s bold stance comes at a high point in her career. A seasoned veteran of the Indian entertainment industry, she first captured hearts as a host on Tol Mol Ke Bol alongside R. Madhavan and later became a household name as an MTV VJ and the beloved face of the singing reality show Indian Idol. Her versatility has seen her excel across mediums, ranging from streaming series like Mind the Malhotras to various film projects.
Most recently, Mathur proved her competitive mettle by winning the first season of the reality series Alliance, hosted by Kunal Kemmu. In a grand finale that gripped audiences, she triumphed over runner-up Aly Goni and second runner-up Ruhee Dosani, walking away with the trophy and a cash prize of Rs 50 lakh.
Through her recent comments, Mathur continues to cement her status not just as a talented performer, but as a vocal advocate for women’s autonomy and self-respect in the public eye.
