‘Those scrawling this racist propaganda do not represent the vast majority of people here’
Racist graffiti that has been written along the seafront in Holywood has been condemned.
Local Alliance councillor Martin McRandal has spoken out after the racist graffiti was written along the promenade and sea wall in the Co Down town in recent days saying that there is “no place in society for such views.”
She said: “Holywood is a diverse and welcoming place, which I’m proud to call home.
“Those scrawling this racist propaganda do not represent the vast majority of people here, and I condemn them and their actions entirely, especially with the recent riots which devastated Northern Ireland.
“We must all unite and face down racism and those who spout it. There must be no tolerance for such views in our society.
“I urge anyone with information on this incident to contact the police with it immediately.”
Police have launched an investigation into the graffiti with a spokesperson saying: “Police are investigating following a report of criminal damage in the Holywood area.
“Graffiti of a racist nature was recently sprayed on some areas in the town.
“Enquiries are ongoing to determine when this damage was caused – which is being treated as a racially-motivated hate crime.
“There is no place in our society for this type of behaviour, and police would ask anyone with any information to contact them on 101, quoting reference number 708 12/07/26.
“Alternatively, you can report online at https://reporting.psni.police.uk/appeals or in confidence through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or online at http://crimestoppers-uk.org.”
