A group of police officers stopped for a short break at an A55 McDonald’s last night after dealing with a nearby incident.
The officers just wanted a coffee from the fast food restaurant at Caerwys.
But it wasn’t be unfortunately because as soon as they ordered trouble rolled into the car park. Sign up for the North Wales Live newsletter sent twice daily to your inbox
Two drivers arrived – putting on a show with wheel-spinning, revving engines and screeching tyres. Police decided to check out their credentials and ended up booking them for a number of alleged offences.
A spokesperson for the policing team explained: “Sometimes all you want is a hot cup of coffee.
“After dealing with an incident on the A55 near Caerwys last night, some of our officers thought they’d pop into the local fast-food restaurant for a coffee and a catch up.
“Then…screech. Two cars arrived in the car park with all the subtlety of a marching band – wheel-spinning, revving engines and screeching tyres.
“Safe to say our coffee break was over before it had really begun. So we thought we’d go over and say hello.”
One driver was found to be disqualified from driving and over the drink drive limit. They were arrested and the vehicle seized and will appear at Llandudno Magistrates Court.
Driver two was a provisional licence holder with no insurance and gave a positive roadside drugs test for cocaine. They were arrested and the vehicle seized and later released under investigation pending the results of further tests.
The spokesperson added: “What was meant to be a quick coffee stop turned into two arrests, two seized vehicles and a mountain of paperwork…and yes the coffee went cold.
“The moral of the story?
“If you’re going to announce your arrival by wheel-spinning and revving your engine…maybe don’t do it in front of a group of officers.
“On a more serious note, drink driving, drug driving, driving whilst disqualified and driving without insurance puts everyone at risk. We’re on the roads every day, and we’ll continue to take action against those who choose to ignore the law.
“Drive safely, drive legally and help us keep North Wales’s road safe for everyone.”
